A Renewed Strength (4/3/2011) A Renewed Strength Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and leshua son of lehozadak responded by starting again to rebuild the Temple of God in lerusalem (Ezra 5:2). ln the Old Testament, there is a man by the name of Zerubbabel. God put in him a desire to rebuild the Temple. The whole city of Jerusalem had been destroyed fifty years earlier. He came back and laid the foundation. But he ran into fierce opposition. Some people didn't want the Temple rebuilt. So they went to the lawyers and judges, and they got a decree telling him to stop. We can relate to Zerubbabel because all of us have experienced resistance when we have tried to build our dreams. God puts a promise in our heart, and opponents come out of the woodwork trying to discourage us. Some of his own men said, ''Zerubbabel, we're not able to do this. The task is too great.'' They just gave up. For ten years there was no work done on the Temple. I can imagine Zerubbabel's feelings as the weeks, months, and years went by and he continued to see the unfinished foundation and the stacks ofstone and lumber. lt looked like a big waste. l'm sure he must have thought,''God, I started out so well. I laid the foundation. I had these big dreams. But people came against me. I had so many obstacles.'' But remember, God never starts something that He cannot finish. Ten years later, the prophet Zechariah came by. He said, God sent me all this way to give you two words. Here's what they are: Begin again.'' All of a sudden, his a faith was stirred. He said, ''You mean God can still bring this to pass? Do you know how long it's been? Do you know how many people are against me? Do you really think I can still do it?'' Zechariah s aid, ''l don't think you can, I know you can. God says get started, begin again. I believe God says the same thing to each one of us. Get your hopes up. Get your dreams back. God is saying, ''lt's time to start believing again. Start praying again. Start expecting good things again.'' Back then, Zechariah told Zerubbabel to go get the capstone. The capstone was the stone that was reserved as the final piece that went into the building when it was finished. lt was symbolic. lt represented a completed project. Every time he looked at it, the capstone reminded him that God is a God of completion. Do you keep the vision of your capstone in front of you? Do you have something that represents the final piece to your dreams, something that reminds you of its being completed-even if it's symbolic? I know a couple whose son was estranged. He'd been off course for years and years. They went and bought a Bible and had his name engraved on it. They put it on their coffee table. That was their capstone. Every time they walked b, it, they thought, ''lt's just a matter of time. He's coming back home. He will serve the Lord. God will finish what He started.” Choose something that represents a capstone for your dream and then begin again. |
